You’ve honed your leadership vision, established concrete goals, and committed to ongoing development. So how do you ensure you put your intentions into practice? It may be time to try an Empower Hour.

It’s easy to get so caught up in day-to-day responsibilities that leadership growth falls by the wayside. An Empower Hour is a 60-minute block you carve out once or twice a month, dedicated to tangible actions that level-up your leadership. It’s a chance to hold yourself accountable, live your values, and ensure your goals don’t slide to the bottom of your priority list. 

You’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish in just an hour — and how much progress you can make toward your goals when you make it a regular practice. To get you started with your Empower Hour practice, consider the following three areas for focused action. 

Build relationships

Taking the time to align yourself with like-minded, values-driven professionals not only helps strengthen your ability to make a positive impact now, but also paves the way for future career advancement. 

  • Spread positive feedback: send a brief, personal email to each of your team members offering specifics about what they’re doing well
  • Reach out to your connections: follow up with people you haven’t talked to in a while and reply to messages languishing in your inbox

  • Live your values by volunteering: whether you mentor young professionals or join the board of an organization that matters to you, embrace the opportunity to give back to your community 

  • Show up and shake hands: attend a networking event to connect with the influencers and up-and-comers who could change your career trajectory

Hone your leadership skills

While day-to-day activities help you put your existing skills into practice, dedicating your Empower Hour to further enrichment will help you amplify your impact even more.

  • Attend a workshop or read a book that inspires growth 
  • Schedule a session with a leadership coach 

  • Seek feedback by asking team members to share one thing they value about your leadership and one thing you could do differently
